When I left Our Price I started working in Charity retail. First for Marie Curie cancer care and then for 13 years at Shelter.
This was at a time when the charity sector was increasingly recruiting people with the specific skills to run specific activities (rather than simply expressing an interest in something). I ended up doubling the size of Shelter’s charity shop chain and running the charity catalogue; trading arm; plus ‘Shelter Training’ - a business that sold housing and housing related training into the sector.
When I was approached about The Big Issue Foundation role I leapt at the chance. I was, and remain, motivated by the fact TBI is a business that makes social and economic change.
